I just installed iPhone 3.0 firmware today. I was so excited.
I had no problems at all. All my games seem to be working, my music is now playing out of my bluetooth stereo headset, and I’m sending sms text messages in landscape mode. Then…..
I went to check my email and got this dreaded error message telling me my phone couldn’t connect to a data network and that I wasn’t subscribed to a data plan. Damn it! Nothing ever works for me. 
Now it’s time to Google.
I search and search and after resetting my network settings 3 times, hard resetting my iPhone 3G just as many times, I find an answer.
Here’s what you do:
Get on a wifi connection and type up http://www.unlockit.co.nz/#_Custom
Enter the following in the settings:
APN: wap.cingular
Username: WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM
Password: CINGULAR1
Now hit “Create Custom Profile” and be patient.
You’re going to be exiting out of Safari and asked if you want save what you just created. Be sure you typed in the settings correctly before you even get this far and then save that profile.
Now your data plan works again. TaDa!

for my iphone 2g only worked with the screen name being all lower caps and not capital. Additionally the APN should be like this: Wap.Wingular
APN *Wap.Cingular

I have a 2g running 3.0.1, and had the no connect problem after 3.0.1 update. I am using a non iphone SIM with a $15/mo data plan (non iphone) and this patch worked for me just as it is described. Thought I would add that since another message indicated that you needed to do something different for a 2g.

I am having some problems with my 2g described above. I have to frequently (maybe 1/2 the times) shut off and restart the iphone to get a 2g connection. I switched to the settings suggested by yonathan above,and that seemed to help at first, but now i’m not sure. Any suggestions?
Am i doing something wrong? 2g phone with 3.0 wofe’s cel, loss everything.. she’s pissed. need to make edge work, try he above, maybe im doing something wrong,,, pls help..

hey man cool videos… i got a problem…i have unblocked my iphone ive jailbroken it and im curently using 3.0.1.
i am using a 3 simcard and it is on contract. everything works fine. i can make calls recieve them but the problem i have is using the internet. it says “could not activate cellular data network: you are not suscribed to a cellular data service.
i can use wifi perfectly but because i am on contract with 3 i also have free internet but wen i use the simcard on the iphone that message cums up and i cant use internet. do u know how i can resolve this problem. i have tried other videos on utube but it jus dosent seem to work. if u can help that would be cool. thankx man

Hi. These instructions do not suggest that you have to choose a carrier. On the original site (I also posted there), you have to select a carrier instead of blank. Unfortunately, my carrier (Orange Israel) is not listed there and while I did follow the installation instructions, I still get the “no carrier … ” message. Can anyone help with this? Do I need to add the carrier? Is there any way I can add a carrier to that list myself? If yes how? Thanks, Sylvia

Everytime I get mad or let down, I do a little research and find a solution to every problem. Thank god for the internet. I screwed up and updated to 3.1 on my phone so all day today was downgrading, unlocking, and trying to figure out the problems. This was my last issue.

i upgraded my 2g unlocked iphone from version 2.2 to version 3.1 ever since then i am getting the message “Could Not Activate Cellular Data Network: You Are Not Subscribed to a Cellular Data Service” accessing data on edge. Please let me know if the solution above will help me also.

can anybody help me. I got Motorola v3i, in that if i put Airtel & vodafone Sim it works nicely. But When i change to Idea, Tata Docomo, Reliance Sim (Gsm) Incoming calls hv no problem. But when i call somebudy an errors occurs which shows NOT SUBSCRIBED.

wap.cingular stopped working all of a sudden on 2g 3.1.2. anyone experience this. i uninstalled and reinstalled several times to no avail. Any help?
