Could Not Activate Cellular Data Network: You Are Not Subscribed to a Cellular Data Service
I just installed iPhone 3.0 firmware today. I was so excited.
I had no problems at all. All my games seem to be working, my music is now playing out of my bluetooth stereo headset, and I’m sending sms text messages in landscape mode. Then…..
I went to check my email and got this dreaded error message telling me my phone couldn’t connect to a data network and that I wasn’t subscribed to a data plan. Damn it! Nothing ever works for me. 
Now it’s time to Google.
I search and search and after resetting my network settings 3 times, hard resetting my iPhone 3G just as many times, I find an answer.
Here’s what you do:
Get on a wifi connection and type up http://www.unlockit.co.nz/#_Custom
Enter the following in the settings:
APN: wap.cingular
Username: WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM
Password: CINGULAR1
Now hit “Create Custom Profile” and be patient.
You’re going to be exiting out of Safari and asked if you want save what you just created. Be sure you typed in the settings correctly before you even get this far and then save that profile.
Now your data plan works again. TaDa!

This is all rubbish, I tried and it didn’t work.
I found a solution and it took a second.
Go on your settings then general
Go on celuar data network
Then on your apn instead of wap put pp. And do the same on mms. You only change the wap to pp. Thats it.
This is for pay as you go customers!
I recently changed to a dumb phone, and when I did I was offered 10.00 unlimited data. When I wanted to go back to my iPhone I just put my sim in and it worked (well, data didn’t), but after using this fix, data does again.
ATT website still shows me with 10.00 unlimited data… so my question is, CAN ATT figure out that I’m using my iPhone again (I’m all but sure they can), and if so, whats going to happen, aside from them changing me to their BS 25.00 2GB plan.

seriously….who puts up crap like this with websites that dont work…then gets his family members to post comments as if they are real users. your damn website doesnt even work. im sick of this iphone crap on t mobile. steve jobs should die for this…i mean who da hell makes a cellphone that is unlockable and you have to go thru all this hassle to get things to work…capitalism in america is evil….there all going to hell if such a place exist…i hope bad things happen to them and there family….(i.e the excutives of america who continue to do stupid things like this for there own profit and gain) evil men….and women im sure

The steps above worked. I have an iPhone 3G OS 4.1 using an AT&T sim card from a non iPhone and the “Could Not Activate Cellular Data Network:…” is no longer a problem. I can now access the web when connected to WiFi or not. However, Settings/General/Network use to have an option for Tethering (which never executed) but now it is gone. Any suggestiong on how to enable tethering?

Regretfully, I’ve upgraded a 3GS 3.1.3 with new bootrom to iOS 4.0.1. The iPad data plan no longer works no matter what I do, network settings reset nor a custom profile with bring iPad 3G data back.
Messages:

You are not subscribed to a cellular data service
My next attempt is to download iOS 4.0 for the 3GS.
Does not work on iOS 4.0.1 with the iPad data plan. I have no idea why…

Hey it worked!!! I have an iphone 3G 3.1.3 version. I have data now! I will donate but first I have a question…I have wifi at home, work, and school. I purchased the data plan package $4.99 for 1GB. I noticed however that even when I’m on wifi I would receive a notice that an xx dollar amount has been deducted from my remaining balance for data. Has anybody experienced this and does anybody know how to fix this?

got my 3gs a few months ago and used this to unlock & it worked like a charm! Then I upgraded to the 4.0 firmware yesterday without thinking and now, getting same msg I used to get “Cannot activate cellular data network blah blah blah”. Realize now its because these instructions are for 3.0 firmware. So, do you have the instructions for 4.0 firmware yet?

Ok. So I have an unlocked iPhone 3g w/Web2Go plan (T-Mobile).
Can’t figure this out and maybe someone has some insight.
• Web2Go works on my iPhone 2g.
• Web2Go will not work my iPhone 3g. Tried all three apns, as well as Cydia T-Mobile packages. No luck.
Anyone else running into these issues? Anyone solved them?

i can make calls and texts but cant access the internet without it being wireless.

wap.cingular stopped working all of a sudden on 2g 3.1.2. anyone experience this. i uninstalled and reinstalled several times to no avail. Any help?

can anybody help me. I got Motorola v3i, in that if i put Airtel & vodafone Sim it works nicely. But When i change to Idea, Tata Docomo, Reliance Sim (Gsm) Incoming calls hv no problem. But when i call somebudy an errors occurs which shows NOT SUBSCRIBED.
Can smone help me out.
